ProSeries opener for John Deere 750A All-Till drill

The ProSeries opener on the John Deere 750A All-Till seeder replaces the familiar 90 Series design, which has been used on the machine since its 1990s introduction. The overall concept remains the same but a narrower seed boot that fits tighter to the disc is designed to further reduce soil disturbance, with the aim of reducing germination of pernicious weeds such as blackgrass.

Reduce wearing parts costs

Moreover, the new design is said to reduce wearing parts costs as the boot is less exposed to contact with abrasive soil, and to contribute to a 40 per cent improvement in the consistency of sowing depth. The seed tab, which prevents seeds bouncing, has been re-designed to better fit the slot while lasting twice as long, while a narrower and larger diameter press wheel follows on the seeding unit assembly.

This is also said to last twice as long in service thanks to a double-row bearing while being more effective in the slot for improved seed contact with moist soil.

More even germination performance

That – together with more consistent sowing depth – can result in more even germination performance, says John Deere, which should also be enhanced by a closing wheel that now has a serrated rim and is said to improve slot closure by 50 per cent. Replacing worn opening discs should take almost half the time it does currently, says the manufacturer.

Operators who favour isobus electronics will welcome an upgrade that bring fully compliant electronics to the 750A All-Till – and the 740A Min-Till drill at the same time. Section control, seed volume adjustment to maintain the required rate when tramlining, and pre-dosing to prevent gaps when setting off from the headland, are among the functions available through Deere and third-party isobus terminals.
