JCB launches mobile hydrogen refueller

The JCB hydrogen refueller is to take hydrogen from on-site tube trailers and distribute it to hydrogen-powered machines on the job site such as JCB’s backhoe loader and Loadall telescopic handler. Both the loader and the telescopic handler are currently in working prototype stages.

Refuel machines on site with mobile hydrogen refueller

The mobile hydrogen refueller is to provide a quick and easy way to refuel machines on site. JCB says that around 97 percent of construction machines have fuel delivered to them while working on site which should make hydrogen fuel delivery equally interesting. “This is no different to today when diesel is taken in bowsers to refuel machines. Customers are already used to a transportable fuel allowing refuelling to take place in a matter of minutes.”

In the article ‘Why hydrogen is the future farm fuel’, JCB’s Chairman Lord Bamford shared his views on future engine and driveline concepts and stated among others that ‘hydrogen has three times more energy per litre than diesel’.

£100 million investment in hydrogen engines

The Fastrac 4220 refueller is part of the company’s £100 million investment in a project to produce hydrogen engines. “Fossil fuels are not the future and hydrogen is the practical solution to powering machines in the decades to come.”
