G4V self-propelled crop sprayer: Goldacres latest addition

16-04-2018 | |

A high-specification 4,000 litres (1,050 gal) self-propelled sprayer designed primarily for vegetable crop protection is the latest addition to the Goldacres range built in Australia.

In contrast to the all-mechanical drive of other models, which have capacities of 3,000 to 8,000 litres (790 to 2,100 gal), the Goldacres G4V Crop Cruiser has a hydro-mechanical transmission comprising a variable displacement pump mounted on the 165 hp Cummins engine and a hydraulic motor on the 2-speed transfer case.

Variable speed control

This set-up provides infinitely variable speed control and hydraulic ‘braking’, and permanent 4-wheel drive while retaining shaft-driven portal axles featuring lockable differentials for maximum traction when conditions are slippery underfoot.

4-wheel steering and a choice of 8 wheel track settings accommodate various row crop widths using different rim and dish configurations for the 380/80 R64 or 480/80 R46 tyres.

The powertrain comprises a variable displacement pump mounted on the 165 hp Cummins engine and a hydraulic motor on the two-speed transfer case, with drive then taken by shafts to portal steering axles.

Air nozzle switching

Application technology includes pneumatic individual nozzle on/off control, pre-priming and through-flushing of the sprayline, and a 2-nozzle option with automatic switching that can be used to maintain consistent spray characteristics across a wide range of operating speeds.

Goldacres says the operator station between the left-side wheels has been designed with efficient and comfortable use in mind with regard to the positioning and height of connection points, valves and the switches used for remote engine speed control and the transfer and main pumps.

Goldacres says the filling and control station is designed for efficiency and operator well-being with regard to the positioning of valves and switches.

A 60-litre (15 gal) induction hopper is standard but a venturi probe for transfers from large containers, and the Micromatic sealed transfer system – which eliminates operator exposure to pesticides – are also available.

Spraying control

Inside the cabin, operators can choose Raven’s SCS450 or SCS4400 controllers to regulate the spraying system, with up to 5- or 7-section on/off and 2 application rate pre-sets. The more advanced controller is needed for the twin nozzle system and ultrasonic boom levelling.

In the large cab, a pantograph wiper keeps the windscreen clear, with key vehicle instruments mounted on the hood bulkhead to save cluttering the interior. A seat-mounted console and displays provide vehicle and spraying system control.

Isobus data communication is also an option for single terminal operation of spraying and vehicle features using displays such as the Trimble FmX 1000, Topcon X30 and displays from Ag Leader and John Deere.
