The ability to record and map grain protein content and other constituents while harvesting is a new option for 2018 model year CR Revelation combines from New Holland.

The near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRs) scanning and analysis technology is already available for forage crop analysis on New Holland FR self-propelled choppers.

It is also being made available on the New Holland’s BigBaler range of large square baling machines and there are plans to extend the facility to other agricultural equipment in future.

Creates better marketing options

On a combine, having immediate proof of the quality and nutritional value of harvested crops gives growers more marketing options and greater opportunity to pursue premium markets with confidence, says New Holland.

Being able to map nutrient value allows fertiliser rates to be fine-tuned for subsequent crops, encouraging optimum yields and, potentially, lower costs.

The Dinamica Generale Evo NIR scanning device is installed on the combine and connects with an isobus-compliant display in the cab.

The NIRs technology is being sourced from Italian manufacturer Dinamica Generale, which is New Holland’s existing partner for weighing systems and electronic solutions.

Dinamic Generale’s Evo NIR instrument is claimed to precisely measure moisture content and analyse parameters such as dry matter, crude protein, crude fat, starch, Neutral Detergent Fibre (NDF) and Acid Detergent Fibre (ADF).

Real-time grain analysis enables growers to make strategic decisions on storage and marketing options to help achieve premium prices for their crops.

Remote calibrations

An extensive range of calibration curves provides combine users with accurate crop information, with GPS management storing field coordinates so that crop parameters can be mapped.

The data collected by the Evo NIR system can be transferred to the farm’s office computer using a USB device or wirelessly by WiFi, and yearly calibrations of the instrument can be carried out remotely using an internet connection.

The New Holland CR Revelation range comprises five twin-rotor threshing and separation combines with power outputs from 517hp to 700hp.
