Fertiliser app controls spreader settings by phone

The latest version of a fertiliser spreading app provides operators of Marshall spreaders up-to-date machine calibration and operating information via their mobile devices, while out in the field.

Developed by Australian spreader manufacturer Roesner primarily for its Marshall range of trailed and truck-mounted spreaders, the Marshall Multispread app can be used in three modes – Calibration, MDC Monitoring and MDC Control.

In Calibration mode, operators can access machine settings such as door openings and ground wheel conveyor drive gear ratios for a range of fertiliser types and spreading widths.

Information is stored on the device so the app can be used in remote areas with no network access, including custom fertiliser densities that can be added to the rate table tool to enable precise calibration of compound granulated fertilisers and organic materials such as manures and mulches.

MDC Monitoring mode

In MDC Monitoring mode, the app connects to the electronics module on the spreader to show spinner and conveyor speed along with the amount of fertiliser in the hopper as weighed by load cells on the chassis, enabling operators to precisely monitor and log fertiliser application rates to minimise wastage, says Roesner.

In MDC Control mode, the app can be used to control application rate by altering the spreader feed door opening using an electric actuator or via the hydraulic motor regulating hopper conveyor speed.

Application rate can be set manually or via a prescription map loaded onto the mobile device.

In each of the app’s modes, the device’s GNSS feature can be used to log the spreader’s location in the field and data such as the rate, spinner and belt speeds, door opening and calibration details for historical reference.

Roesner’s Marshall Multispread range comprises trailed spreaders from 2.1-13.9cu m (2.7-18cu yd) with pto- or hydraulically driven spinners and either a chain/belt or endless woven PVC conveyor.

There are also truck-mounted versions from 4.1-9.0cu m with spinners driven by an independent petrol engine or hydraulic motors.

A trailed spreader with 3m (118in) track setting for controlled traffic systems is also available. The assistance app is available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
