Dutch manufacturer works on small electric tractor

The Dutch manufacturer of a large electro hybrid carrier tractor called Multi Tool Trac, confirmed it is working on a smaller autonomous model.

The initiator of the Multi Tool Trac, a large electro hybrid powered carrier tractor, Paul van Ham, recently announced that he is working on a smaller fully electric driven autonomous tractor. The concept, currently on the drawing table, is supposed to reach a prototype stage at the end of 2019.

Trend towards smaller

Mr van Ham says there’s a trend towards smaller lighter machines that impose less soil compaction. “More and more farmers seem to be wanting to get rid of large heavy weight tractors to prevent soil compaction,” he says.

Another argument for the development is that less weight requires less energy for propulsion and driving implements. The new smaller Tool Trac will be able to work at 3m wide tramlines to fit CTF (Controlled Traffic Farming). But, since 3m wide machines are far from standard and therefore the smaller Tool Trac will also be able to cope with other machine and track widths.
