Bateman upgrades RB self-propelled sprayers
A new cab providing operators with an enhanced working environment and control system is the major upgrade for the latest-model RB self-propelled sprayers from UK manufacturer Bateman Engineering.
The machines’ spraying is system is also upgraded with the introduction of a pulse width modulation (PWM) option, which provides a means of altering flow rate to maintain the required application rate across different speeds without negatively impacting spray quality.
A PWM controller manages individual solenoid bodies, switching them on and off from 10 to 30 times per second; the longer the ‘open’ phase, the greater volume of liquid is applied.

Constant self-diagnosis
Pressure remains the same, so there is no change in droplet size or spray characteristics and the system also provides ‘radius control’ that automatically compensates for differences in boom ground speed as the machine works through a curve, multi-step section control and constant self-diagnosis that will flag up a nozzle blockage or solenoid failure.
AgLeader InCommand 800 and 1200
AgLeader InCommand 800 and 1200 (or the base Compass) displays provide rate control, auto boom height, variable rate, section control and other sprayer functions. The display is located on a pull-down mounting that brings the unit to operator head height for inputting settings, after which it can be pushed back up to the cab roof for a clearer view through the large windscreen.

A new cab features a large glass area curving behind the operator and Category IV air filtration and volume/pressure management.

AgLeader InCommand displays used for spraying system and precision farming technology control are located on a pull-down mounting that provides convenient settings inputting but also a clear view through the windscreen when spraying is underway.

Control switches are located on a seat-mounted console along with the hydrostatic drive stick.

Steel booms up to 42m (138ft) wide come in fixed and variable geometry designs and come with stainless steel spraylines fitted with single or triple nozzle bodies, either conventional or with individual on/off via a pulse width modulation system.
Side glass panels curve to the rear of the forward-control cab, so there are only 2 slim pillars interrupting the forward view, and the broad panel immediately behind the operator provides a large storage bin, with a drinks cooler located on the floor. Operators enjoy a Grammer Actimo heated and ventilated suspension seat and a height, angle and reach-adjustable steering column, with all operating switches located on a seat-mounted console together with the hydrostatic transmission controller.
4 models
Bateman Engineering produces 4 models – the 2500/3000-litre (660/790gal) RB17 125hp; 3000-litre (790gal) RB26 with 185hp; 4000-litre (1056gal) RB35 with 225hp; and the 5100-litre (1350gal) RB55 with 275hp, all featuring John Deere engines, newly-upgraded hydrostatic drive, and pedal-operated braking on the 3 six-cylinder models (see also video underneath!).
There is a choice of steel fixed or adjustable geometry booms up to 42m (138ft) wide and all models have a demountable spray pack that can be swapped for a fertiliser broadcaster or granular herbicide spreader.
