Ouster, a leading digital lidar company, and Fieldin, a pioneer in smart farming and autonomous technology, have announced the largest deployment of retrofit autonomy kits for autonomous farm vehicles in the ag industry.
The deployment of retrofit autonomy kits is the result of a multi-year supply agreement between the two companies. The deployment of Ouster’s lidar technology at the center of the autonomy kits promises improved efficiency, cost savings, and more, faster.
The retrofit autonomy kit developed by Fieldin installs on existing equipment with no additional costs, allowing growers to unlock various levels of automation features. With Ouster’s sensors installed on tractors and other farm machinery, reliable vehicle localization, navigation, and object detection are possible.
Fieldin’s Smart Farming Operations platform, alongside their autonomous solutions, provides aggregated data and dashboards for real-time visibility and insight for key farm decision-makers, strengthening accountability, precision, operations, and results.
Autonomous capabilities, such as spraying that delivers up to 87% in chemical savings for high-value crop growers, auto-steering, and other driving assistance capabilities will now be available to farm vehicles equipped with Ouster’s sensors and Fieldin’s Smart Farming Operations platform.
Ouster shipped 100 sensors to Fieldin at the end of 2022, and several hundred additional sensors are planned to be shipped through 2024. The news is a significant milestone for the ag industry, demonstrating how autonomy offers benefits such as improved efficiency and cost savings.
