Auto density control on MF 2370 Ultra HD baler

Fully automatic density control, which is set up through a new Isobus terminal interface, features on the latest big square baler in the Massey Ferguson range.

The MF 2370 Ultra HD engineered and built at AGCO’s Hesston, Kansas factory in the USA is designed to significantly outperform existing MF2200 Series big balers, to mount more of a challenge to competitor machines.

The new Massey Ferguson 2370 Ultra HD big square baler is designed to produce 90cm x 120cm bales up to 20% heavier than the existing MF 2270 XD.

Biomass harvesting with the MF 2370 Ultra HD baler

It is aimed primarily at professional operators, either large farms or contractors, and particularly those involved in biomass harvesting who would value the 20% increase in bale weights that MF says the new machine can produce.

While the newcomer operates in much the same way as the MF 2270 XD baler, which produces the same 90cm x 120cm bales, a flywheel spinning 50% faster and generating 130% more energy, plus a 20% longer bale chamber helps pack more material into every bale.

Sensors on the rods that connect the new gearbox and plunger provide data for the automatic density control system.

Load-cell sensors

Intake speed has also been increased – by 14% – so that the machine can be driven faster along swaths to consistently fill the pre-compression chamber before material is transferred to the main chamber.

2 connecting rods between the new purpose-built gearbox and the plunger, which runs at a 6.5% faster speed of 50 strokes per minute, carry load-cell sensors monitoring the load on the plunger face. The load-cell sensor is mounted at the centre of each connecting rod, measuring the compression load in kilonewtons (kN) as the plunger pushes against the bale being formed. The separate measurements provide the data to actuate the operator’s left-right guide arrows.

The new BaleCreate baler set-up and monitoring interface shows a bird’s eye view of the baler to identify key systems; it is displayed here on the C1000 terminal.

Isobus-compliant terminals

This enables automatic adjustment of the 55% larger double-acting rams on the density ring around the bale chamber to produce bales of consistent density and weight in variable conditions.

MF offers 2 Isobus-compliant terminals – the C1000 with 7in colour screen, buttons either side and a scroll and confirm dial; and the 12in colour display C2100 with touch screen operation.

The Topcon-sourced MF C2100 12in touch screen terminal or any other isobus-compliant terminal can be also used to access BaleCreate functions.

The BaleCreate interface will also display on any other Isobus-compliant terminal to provide chamber-fill steering guidance along narrow swaths, baler function monitoring, auto density control and auto lubrication set-up.
