Remote management of heavy-duty suspension for agricultural trailers has been enhanced with slope control for stability and automatic third axle lift/lower for tyre and fuel economy.
Manufactured by Dutch company Tridec – part of the Jost Group – the Tridec MD-O and HD-O suspension systems use a single trailing wishbone to locate each axle, which typically are installed as tandem or triple combinations.
The drawing point is attached to the chassis by a rubber-mounted ball joint that absorbs braking forces and vibration and 2 hydraulic cylinders support the trailer chassis.
The MD-O version is for axle loads up to 10,000kg while the HD-O design caters for up to 14,000kg per axle.
They are installed by manufacturers of trailers, slurry tankers, silage wagons and manure spreaders wanting a high degree of independent axle oscillation to cope with undulating ground and effective suspension to cushion the vehicle in field and road situations.
The wireless Tritronic trailer management system provides remote ride height adjustment, auto levelling control and alignment of steered axles where fitted.
Latest features add slope control, which sets a fixed chassis angle relative to the ground for greater stability when traversing a hill – typically, with a forage wagon or slurry tanker, which often have a relatively high centre of gravity.
The load display feature shows the gross vehicle weight, the cargo load and load per axle, while auto axle control automatically brings a lifting axle into play when the others are loaded to capacity.
This last function, which also raises the axle once the load is reduced, results in the least practical wear of the leading axle tyres while ensuring the trailer is not run inadvertently with axles and tyres overloaded.
