Farmers signed up to the John Deere Operations Center and using the Fieldmargin web and mobile device app for recording farm activities can now create a digital map of the farm, using existing data.
The app, developed by UK-based software business Field Margin, is characterised as ‘your farm in your pocket’, as it provides a means of creating visual records of farm enterprises with annotated maps, notes and messaging that can be shared between members of the farm team and externally.
Geo-located notes with pictures are combined with existing or newly created maps and text communications between members of the farm team as appropriate to a particular task to create a record of intentions, instructions, issues that may arise and solutions.
The aim is to build a picture of what has happened on the farm to help with future communication and provide insights for better management.
“The Fieldmargin app is ideal for recording observations when crop walking, managing work that is happening on the farm and communicating with staff and external providers such as agronomists and contractors,” says Rob Carter, Field Margin CEO.
“You no longer spend time explaining which part of the hedge needs cutting or searching for that note jotted on a delivery slip, and map notes record everything that is discussed on the farm.”
Maps can be downloaded to use offline and notes and features can be added with or without an internet connection.
