The Belgian machine manufacturer AVR Machinery is introducing a grading measurement system on the Puma 4.0 self-propelled potato harvester. Through a camera system, potatoes are identified and measured, providing farmers with insight into potato yields.

At the Interpom trade fair, taking place from November 24 to 26 in Kortrijk, the Belgian company AVR Machinery will showcase the grading measurement system on the Puma 4.0 self-propelled potato harvester. Based on data from a stereo vision camera, the system detects potato size (width and length), excluding stones and clods.

A stereo vision camera uses two or more lenses to capture images from different angles. On the Puma 4.0, the camera is mounted above the bunker fill conveyor.

AVR Connect (an online platform for collecting machine data) processes the grading data, which can be used to determine crop selection and the appropriate fertilizers or pesticides. The grading measurement system also helps manage soil health during the growing season.

AVR has not yet announced the price of the grading measurement system.
