What is the most striking detail of your system?
AgOpenGPS is an open-source auto-steer system with a range of options to control tractors and machines. The hardware interface is based on Arduino hardware and software so it is easy to change the code and upgrade to more precise gps. Most farmers use a simple dc motor with a foam wheel to turn the steering wheel or use DIY (do it yourself) 3D printed gears.
How is it fitted?
For most farmers installing the system DIY will require some initial understanding/learning through tutorials but after that it shouldn’t take longer than 1-2 hours.
Can it be fitted on pre-installed or factory fitted vehicle components?
Because the system is open source, you can control most pre-installed or factory fitted components such as CAN bus, Danfoss PWN hydraulic and motor controllers.
Can you take the system to another vehicle?
This depends on how well the farmer sets up the system. If you use robust plugs, you can change the system from tractor to tractor very quickly. Only the steering angle sensor should remain on the tractor.
What happens if satellite or correction signals lack or fail?
We use the u-blox F9P module which keeps RTK for about 4 minutes without correction signals. After that autosteer doesn’t work very well.
What patterns are available?
Straight AB line, curved, boundaries and you can record internal field boundaries and mark obstacles. You can use pictures from Bing maps and can create boundaries from KML fields as well.
How often and at what costs is the software updated?
The software is free of charge and updated regularly.
Which licenses/unlocks are available and at what costs?
No licences or unlocks are required.
