Schmiede.One shows semi-autonomous potato harvester

The video was posted on LinkedIn. Schmiede.One does not provide any further technical details. The machine is officially launched at the Agritechnica show.

Grimme start-up

Schmiede.One is a start-up that operates under the wings of machine builder Grimme. Apparently the idea is that in addition to the ever-growing potato and beet harvesters there is room for small machines.

The semi-autonomous harvester would be a cheaper alternative to the large machines, and could avoid soil compaction. Think of a swarm of small harvesters instead of 1 large one.

Semi-autonomous machine

The harvester is equipped with a 37 hp engine. It’s an autonomous machine, however the video does show operators, but they are focusing on the potatoes being harvested.

The machine can be operated using a remote control or with a self-learning visual guidance system, where cameras follow the rows.

The small autonomous harvester can be seen at the Grimme booth at Agritechnica in Hannover, Germany.
