Machine manufacturer Krone offers a weighing device on their round balers.

The weighing device is mounted underneath the wrapping table, where the bales are placed and where there spin round and are wrappend in plastic.

The weighing is being done at the moment when the bale lands on the wrapping table, just before the wrapping process starts. The computer remembers the weight of each bale and adds those up per field or per client. That way, the farmer get’s a quick overview.

According to Mark Berghuis of Krone more and more farmers want to know precisely what their fields are producing. Especially when feed, like hay or straw, is being sold after harvest.

To give an example, Berghuis refers to the big square balers, where weighing devices are available since 2011. Nowadays almost every big square bale is being equipped with a weighing device, and farmers and contractors regard it an omission when such a device is missing.

“The next step is spot-wise recording of grass, hay or straw yields. But that’s something for the future”, says Berghuis. Krone promises a weighing accuray of +/- 3 per cent. The weighing device costs € 3.040.
