New Holland methane-powered tractor into production

New Holland’s methane-powered tractor will be a 180 hp T6.180. The engine is developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT).

30% lower running costs

According to New Holland, the running costs of its methane-powered tractor will be 30% lower. CO2 emissions are reduced by 10%. Because there are no soot emissions, there is no need for complex – and expensive – exhaust gas aftertreatment systems.

Buyers selected carefully

New Holland plans to build 20 tractors in their UK factory in Basildon. Buyers are being selected carefully, because New Holland wants to be able to monitor the tractors. Some will remain in the UK, other are destined for France.

The first prototype of a methane-powered tractor was unveiled by New Holland in 2013, followed by another prototype in 2017, which had quite a futuristic design.

At Agritechnica New Holland will show the final version that is to go into production; this version will more or less look like a standard T6.180 diesel-powered tractor.
