Naio’s vineyard robot Ted is now equipped with a tool-holder in the middle and its engine power increased.

Naïo Technologies launched a new version of its Ted vineyard robot. The robot’s appearance changed, and it has undergone several technological and mechanical changes, in response to in-field requirements expressed by wine-growers.

New Ted robot on trial since 1 July 2020

The new version of the Ted vineyard robot has been on trial since 1 July 2020 amongst Naïo Technologies’ partners the Maison Hennessy and Bernard Magrez company.

With the help of feedback provided by about twenty winegrowers having used Ted for the last 3 years, a set of specifications was defined to help finalise this latest version, which is now ready for mass production.

The robot is now equipped with a tool-holder in the middle, boasting a parallelogram lift. A wide array of mechanical tools can be hitched onto a multi-purpose pole, and two tools can be combined at the same time.

Increased engine power

Naïo Technologies says that with its robust frame, increased engine power and speed ranging up to 3 miles/h, its hauling capacity in sloped vineyards was boosted. “Yet it still weighs much less than standard tractors and high-clearance machines.”

Ted’s new modular arches mean it can adapt to various vineyard typologies (narrow or high vines, etc.).

“The improvements made to this new Ted version ensure more reliability, and mean this vineyard robot can be used as a truly autonomous tool,” said Marie-Luce Fournié, COO of Naïo Technologies.

Safety features

The company says the conception and design of the platform were thought-out whilst maximising the machine’s safety features. Safety devices were included (slowing down before an obstacle and halting immediately if touched), and a remote operational monitoring system was installed.

The new Ted version will be introduced mid-October during a roadshow throughout France, stopping off in several French vineyards and will be available for sale in 2021.

Price

Naïo Technologies says other functionalities will be developed by 2023. The target price is € 175,000. According to the company, an offer of 30% reduction is out and already proposed for the commercial launch of this final version.

Naïo Technologies has delivered 4 Ted robots since August, with 3 additional deliveries to come in 2020. The company is already taking orders for 2021, and aims to deliver around 15 robots in 2021.
