John Deere unveils electric tractor at CES 2025

The American machinery manufacturer John Deere has unveiled several autonomous machines at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas. Among these innovations is an electric tractor capable of delivering 130 horsepower.

The E-Power, as John Deere refers to the prototype, is equipped with a battery providing a continuous output of 100 kW, delivering 130 horsepower, and is ready for autonomous operation. The e-tractor can be fitted with an autonomy kit, enabling it to perform tasks independently. The manufacturer developed the machine for high-value crops such as vegetables and grapes. Currently, John Deere is testing the tractor in orchards.

The company has shared limited technical details and has not disclosed when the E-Power will be commercially available.

Autonomous tractors 9RX and 5ML

In addition to the electric tractor, John Deere is presenting a self-driving 9RX tractor in Las Vegas. The 9RX features a second-generation autonomy kit, equipped with sixteen cameras housed in pods. These cameras provide a 360-degree view of the surroundings, allowing the tractor to operate autonomously.

The autonomous John Deere 5ML tractor is also on display at the CES. This model has been specifically designed for orchard operations. It is equipped with an autonomy kit featuring Lidar sensors, making it suitable for spraying tasks.

First-generation autonomy kits debuted at CES 2022

John Deere first unveiled its autonomous technology at the CES innovation expo in 2022, introducing the self-driving 8R tractor. At CES 2025, the manufacturer is now showcasing second-generation kits for autonomous driving.
