German tractor manufacturer Fendt has updated its electric e100 and will start limited sales after the Agritechnica trade fair from November 12-18 in Hannover (D.). In contrast to the first prototypes, Fendt has now opted for a narrow track variant.

Fendt will show a new version of its electric e100 tractor to trade fair visitors at the upcoming Agritechnica. From that moment on it is possible to place orders. Limited production will start in 2024 for only three countries: Germany, Norway and The Netherlands. Actual series production is planned for 2025.

Still the same concept as prototype

The first version of the electric e100 was based on a 200P series. Now Fendt has chosen to build the electric tractor based on a V-series narrow-track tractor. One model will be launched on the market: the e107V. The exterior of the tractor is virtually comparable to the diesel variant. From the outside you only see that an exhaust system is missing and that the hood is a fraction higher.

Conceptually, the tractor is the same as the prototype. This means that there is a battery pack under the hood and one electric motor simulates the diesel engine. This also means that the tractors have a standard Vario transmission. This means that only one expensive electric motor is needed that, in addition to the drive, also drives the PTO shafts and hydraulics, instead of three motors with the same power.

You can charge the tractor with the same chargers as those for electric cars. The battery works for 4 to 5 hours for work that would normally use 5 to 6 liters of diesel.

Choose your own engine power

The e100 has been transformed into a narrow track version and a front PTO is now also available – this was not yet the case with the prototype. However, according to Fendt, the most important change is that only certified components are used. While Fendt still purchased parts for the prototype from start-ups, the manufacturer now purchases everything from large parties that also supply the automotive sector.

Only with the e107V you can set the motor power yourself in the terminal. You can choose whether the motor delivers 50 kW, 55 kW or briefly 66 kW. Naturally, the power supplied affects the time you can work with the battery.

According to Fendt, it is possible to work with the tractor for 4 to 5 hours, with an engine load that normally consumes 5 to 6 liters of diesel. That would be normal for a narrow track tractor – which is also the reason that Fendt is now starting with a narrow track. Charging from 20 to 80% can be done in 40 minutes with a fast charger. Count on an asking price that – depending on the options chosen – is 50 to 100% higher than that of a diesel variant.

Production starts on a limited base

Fendt has already set up space in the factory for the production of the electric tractors. The tractors start on the normal assembly line. The machines enter a separate room via a by-pass system where employees assemble the high-voltage electrical components. Fendt makes no statements about planned and expected production numbers or about market potential.
