It was not only agricultural robotics taking centre stage at this years Agritechnica exhibition. Tractors capable of autonomous, driverless operation were more prominent than ever. Are we on the verge of a breakthrough?

Four major tractor manufacturers had autonomy ready tractors on display at their booth in Hanover. Interestingly, most of them are capable of doing this as a result of the acquisition of or cooperation with one or more specialists. Case IH for instance, relies on the Raven Autonomy Driverless Tillage Solution to automate their Magnum 340 AFS. Kubota showcased a larger version of their autonomous AgriRobo, the AgriRobo MR 1000 A based on a M5002.

Claas surprised the exhibition audience with a prototype of an autonomous Xerion 12.590 TerraTrac on display. The ‘Autonomyconnect’ tractor has been developed in collaboration with robot manufacturer AgXeed. Agco exhibited various Fendt tractors capable of autonomous operation. Such as a 900-series and the all-new e107 Vario electric tractor. The tractors are equipped with knowhow and technology from among others JCA Technologies. A company acquired by Agco in 2022.
