Arable farmers are very interested in variable planting of ware potatoes. Within the Nationale Proeftuin Precisielandbouw (NPPL) a lot of experience has been gained with this precision farming technique.
With variable planting of ware potatoes (both fresh and processed into chips, etc.), you try to achieve an optimal planting distance within a plot for the highest possible financial return. For variable planting, it is important that the seed material is uniform and that the grower knows how vital the tubers are (germination rate).
This video explains the technique and what you can achieve with it. Arable farmers also talk about their experiences with variable planting.
