365FarmNet has enhanced its Crop View tool for nitrogen application.

The enhanced component Crop View from Claas and 365FarmNet improves the opportunities for exploiting satellite data. Crop View supplies the farmer with a simple and clear presentation of his own plots of land and the respective vegetation and enables him to create application maps with this information.

Plots easily identified

Plots can be easily filtered by crop, differences in vegetation on the plots of land can be identified at a glance. According to 365FarmNet, “Crop View is a simple and practical decision-making tool based on regularly updated satellite images – to be used also without having special Information Technology knowledge.”

Images available immediately

So far farmers usually had to send field boundaries to suppliers and received the relevant images a few days later. Crop View changes the approach. After activation of the component in 365FarmNet, images of the respective user’s fields are available immediately.

“Raw data are being converted into meaningful information that help the farmer make decisions on optimised measures for sub-areas,” says 365FarmNet.

Differences in vegetation

The satellite images that Crop View uses have a resolution of 10 by 10 metres. That makes differences in vegetation in the field visible. When using Crop View, you can identify and select one of your fields, and then determine how much nitrogen per acre you want to apply, including variable application. Within seconds Crop View then creates an application map, showing you exactly how much nitrogen is to applied on each part of the field.

Data over the years

The system is able to make these calculations based on averages, using data that goes back to 2016. The advantage here is that ‘problem areas’, where crop growth has fallen behind over the years, become visible, so the farmer can decide whether a soil scan is necessary or not.

The application map generated by Crop View can be loaded onto the terminal using a USB stick. For Fendt, Crop View is connected to the cloud, so a USB stick is not necessary.

Right now, Crop View is available in Germany, France, Poland and Austria.
