Taylor Farms, a North American producer of ready-to-eat salads and fresh healthy foods, has announced its acquisition of FarmWise, an agricultural technology company specialising in precision weeding and thinning solutions. This strategic acquisition strengthens Taylor Farms’ commitment to advancing agricultural technology and sustainable farming practices.

FarmWise, which recently announced a winding down of operations, has been a pioneer in ag-tech, particularly known for its advanced robotics and automation systems that tackle critical farming challenges. Its flagship product, the Vulcan technology, helps farmers reduce their reliance on manual labour, increase productivity, and implement sustainable practices by providing efficient precision weeding and thinning solutions.

“We believe in the FarmWise technology and its potential to transform the specialty crop space,” said Ted Taylor, President of Taylor Farms Agricultural Operations. “This acquisition is a step forward in our mission to innovate within agriculture, ensuring we continue to meet the growing demand for high-quality, fresh foods.”

FarmWise CEO, Tjarko Leifer, expressed excitement about the future of ag-tech: “I am incredibly proud of what our team has achieved,” said Leifer. “The FarmWise Vulcan provides a strong return on investment for vegetable growers today, and this is only the beginning. We’re excited to see how advanced robotics will continue to enhance farming productivity and sustainability.”

Smooth transition

As part of the acquisition, Taylor Farms will work closely with FarmWise to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing service for current Vulcan customers. The acquisition aligns with Taylor Farms’ strategy of adopting innovative technologies to benefit the entire produce industry, simplifying farming practices and promoting sustainable agriculture.
