The Austrian machinery manufacturer Pöttinger is introducing a wider version of the Sensosafe wildlife scanner at the Agromek 2024 trade fair, taking place from November 26 to 29 in Herning, Denmark.
The new Sensosafe wildlife scanner has a working width of 3.5 meters and can be combined with equipment wider than 10 meters. The scanner is mounted on the front or rear of a mower or forage harvester and scans for wildlife during harvesting. When the Sensosafe detects birds, roe deer fawns, or other wild animals in the crop, it alerts the driver to stop the machine.
The Sensosafe wildlife scanner uses infrared light that reflects off the fur of wild animals and the feathers of birds. The system does not respond to objects such as molehills.
According to the manufacturer, infrared light offers advantages over thermal imaging cameras, especially on warm days when everything has the same temperature, making thermal imaging cameras less effective.
