Tire manufacturer Continental will be showing a chemical-free method of combating weeds at the Agritechica trade fair in November: with high-pressure boiling water.
Continental not only supplies tires but also solutions for precision agriculture, such as removing weeds with boiling water. The system works as follows: each weeding element contains cameras and ball joints with a tiny hole in them. The cameras detect the weeds and smart software maps the weeds and their size. Then a pulsating high-pressure jet of boiling water (85-95 degrees) kills the weed plant.
The ball joints ensure that the high-pressure jet sprays the water in the right direction with enormous precision. Depending on the size or thickness of the weed plant, the spray lasts longer or shorter.
Continental supplies this chemical-free weeding system to machine manufacturers. The system can be seen at the Agritechnica trade fair. However, Continental does not yet want to say which manufacturer.
