Dutch Aventus students test AG Leader precision seeder

The 3 meter wide AG Leader precision seeder with four Kinze sowing units was tested on a piece of grassland in Heerde. The maize was sown directly into the sod.

Adjusting sowing elements challenge

According to the students, adjusting the sowing elements and components from manufacturer AG Leader was a challenge. These were set up for large seed drills with up to 36 seed units. With two throttlings, the students ensured that the fan intended for four sowing elements runs more smoothly. First they adjusted the volume flow that goes through the generator, followed by the adjustment of the fan. The students use a generator because the system runs on 24 volts.

Adjusting the hydraulics was also a tricky issue. It was tailored to the American market with American sizes and couplings. The students had little experience with this.

Check sowing

In Heerde, the students checked whether the seed from Pioneer Seeds was placed at the correct sowing depth and the correct spacing. In doing so, they ran into minor faults in the electronics and software. The students then checked the soil density. Because after the seed has been deposited, too much air should not remain in the soil.

Demo in Germany

After the test, the sowing combination will be returned to the Aventus training institute in Apeldoorn. There the machine is dismantled, the frame painted in the right colors and transported to Germany. AG Leader wants to show the seeder there to a number of interested customers.

The seeder developed by the students is intended for demos and training purposes. AG Leader wants to show in Europe that its SureForce technology can be integrated into other seed drill brands. Finally, the students build a trestle on which the seeder can stand during fairs and events.
