Grain temperature recording with Lishman MiniTemp Blue

Bluetooth and mobile device app technology are combined to make it easier for growers and bulk store managers to record grain temperature and make decisions on crop cooling ventilation.

The MiniTemp Blue temperature monitoring system from British manufacturer Martin Lishman, connects 1 or more temperature probes by Bluetooth to an Android or iOS smartphone app that provides instant access to the readings.

In-store use

The figures are available immediately once the user enters the store and opens the app. Readings are collected from temperature probes 20 – 30 meters away, depending upon the configuration of the pile. For more distant sensors, it may be necessary to ensure a line-of-sight connection, notes the manufacturer.

The Bluetooth transmitters are mounted on 2 meter or 3 meter (6‘6” or 9‘10“) static temperature probes positioned to give representative readings throughout the bulk.

Store data

Up to 6 months’ worth of figures can be stored in the app and downloaded to a PC for use as data records, to assist with future storage management and to comply crop quality assurance requirements. The company’s managing director, Dr Gavin Lishman, says the new Bluetooth system is a more convenient upgrade from the established MiniTemp hand-held monitor, which remains available.

This instrument can be used to take instant readings from a single probe, which requires the user to walk across the grain pile, or from multiple probes via a junction box and cables laid out across the grain surface.

In the UK, MiniTemp Blue prices start at £245 with a 2 meter rigid probe sensor.
