Second-generation Oceanis high-capacity trailed sprayers from Kuhn are now isobus-compatible with additional controller options, have closed-transfer chemical filling and can have an electric quad-nozzle installation.

Oceanis 2 sprayers come in 4 sizes from 5000- to 7700-litres (1320 to 2030gal) with all-aluminium booms from 24m to 48m (80ft to 160ft) carried on hydraulic-lift parallelogram for spraying heights from 0.50m to 2.50m (1ft 6in to 8ft). Boom height and levelling control are handled by 3 sensors that in hybrid mode detect the ground as well as crop height to maintain performance in thin or laid crops.

At 7700-litres (2030gal), the Oceanis 7702 is the largest of Kuhn’s new-generation trailed sprayers, which have isobus capability, new controller options and a closed-transfer system to minimise operator exposure.

Kuhn’s Equilibria boom suspension aims to absorb shocks in all 3 dimensions, using hydro-pneumatic cylinders and nitrogen-filled ‘springs’ to keep the boom steady, complemented by similar axle and drawbar springing designed to smooth the machine’s passage over a field surface.

Several nozzle configurations

Booms can be equipped with several nozzle configurations, including Multispray clusters of 4 electrically-operated bodies that can be switched between nozzles with different spray characteristics or to automatically adjust volume output to cope with large variations in forward speed. This installation can also provide individual nozzle on-off for high definition GPS-regulated section control to minimise over-spraying at headlands and where tramlines converge.

  • In ‘hybrid’ mode, the sprayer’s Boom Assist auto height system is said to be capable of simultaneously measuring to the ground and to the top of a standing or laid crop.

Agrotop easyFlow

In addition to a conventional chemical induction bowl for both liquid and powder formulations, the sprayers have Agrotop easyFlow to minimise operator exposure to crop protection chemicals. This involves replacing the chemical container cap with an adapter that fits into a valve on the sprayer; once partially or wholly emptied, the container and valve are rinsed to remove any residues.

The E-Set system, meanwhile, provides automatic control of the sprayer rinsing procedure via an isobus display; it is said to ensure that no sprayline sections or other pipework is missed. UK list prices start at £77,952 with TR4 boom.
